The Most Sophisticated Cocktails

Want a way to spice up your parties and turn them into a more formal event? Why not consider serving a range of cocktails alongside your favourite beer and wine options. We’ve put together what we consider to be three of the best ‘gentlemen’ cocktails, real traditional drinks, that are guaranteed to add a sophisticated touch to any party or meal. Not only this but we have also chosen our topic clothing, footwear and accessories picks to accompany each tempting cocktail!

Originating way back in WW2, this 70 year old cocktail is commonly brandy based, which is what we’ve used in our example recipe. Regarded as a sour cocktail it leave you with a slight delicious tang after every sip.

What you’ll need:

  • 42 ml of Cognac
  • 28 ml of Cointreau
  • 14 ml of Lemon Juice
  • Lemon Peel Twist to accompany

A cocktail like this deserve an outfit that may seem safe on the surface but is daring in the details. We’ve paired the iconic Loake Redgrave Brogues with a classic pair of Bruhl jeans and a simple Farah Polo Shirt. Although this outfit may seem a little laid back, remember that it is all about the brogues.

Old Fashioned

Considered the first cocktail, it dates back over a hundred years to 1880. A popular drink with many in gentlemen’s clubs in Kentucky USA, and is a classic whiskey based cocktail.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 Sugar Cube
  • 3 Dashes of Angostura Bitters
  • 2 Orange Slices (For the perfect tang)
  • 85 ml of Bourbon Whiskey
  • Maraschino Cherry to garnish.

If you’re not hosting a party anytime soon then why not opt for an Old Fashioned next time you’re out. We see the person drinking this kind of cocktail wearing a trusty pair of Loake loafers – with a twist of course! The Loake Eton Loafers in plum are an ideal choice for those who dare to be bold with their footwear. Teamed with a pair of classic black trousers and a simple shirt, our choice would be the Eterna Modern Fit Shirt in blue.

Rob Roy

Known around the world as the ‘Scotch Manhattan’, it’s a personal choice whether to use a single or blend malt scotch in creating your perfect cocktail.

What you’ll need:

  • 43 ml of Scotch
  • 21 ml of Sweet Vermouth
  • Dash of Angostura Bitters
  • Maraschino Cherry to decorate.

This cocktail is a classic and what better way to support a cocktail like this than with a timeless suit. Both checked and tailored, the Benetti Two Piece Suit is an ideal choice for the modern gentleman. We would complete the suit with a simple white tailored shirt and a statement pair of luxury boots, like the Loake Burford Brogue Boots.

Alternatively why not try and create your own cocktails for a bit of fun? You never know you might actually create the next classic. But if not, and none of our choices take your fancy they’re plenty of other out their to choose from!
